Budget = Peace

Budget = Peace

For those of you who aren't aware, Ben and I are avid fans of the Dave Ramsey, Financial Peace University. We took this financial class in the fall after we got married and it has made all the difference. See, Dave gives new (and old) couples a step by step system to get out of debt and then a "how to" on building wealth.

The biggest goal for Ben and I, other than making it by month to month, is getting out of debt while we are still young. The system of budgeting and not getting to attached to extra money has been difficult. Yet, we are now on month nine of budgeting and it feels great to know you have money to spend, or when you don't have money to spend. Something about updating the budget give me a rush (good and bad sometimes!)

There is even a program called the "Debt Snow Ball" and you put each debt amount and interest along with the minimum payment- and it calculates when you will be out of debt based on paying off the lowest and then adding that minimum payment onto the next largest debt. Without any extra payments we will be out of debt in April of 2016. Good news, we pay extra each month and that means we will soon own our cars, have student loans paid off and be on our way to wealth! In the last nine months we have paid off $8,000+ in debt. That includes the wedding and honeymoon. No it wasn't always fun, and yes we have a lot more to go... but each success keeps us trucking along.

Yes, the class costs money, but it is normally through a Church (ours was) and if you don't have the money to take the class, most places have a program where you can earn the class! Also- there is a 90 day free trail of the budget tools (they are amazing, you can even use your phone to update quickly) then you must buy the tools. It is all money well spent, much better than the purse you use three times or the five dinners you just had to go and eat!

On that note, I am off to find some coupons for this month, we were devastated last night when we went to get a Redbox movie with a May Free DVD Code.... devastated. Don't worry, we found a list of new codes.
