Loon Lake Perspective

It is 55 degrees outside today and I am missing the warm mornings at the lake. I spent most of my Saturdays shooting weddings this summer, but on the few weekends I made it to the lake, I enjoyed giggles, splashes, and patriotic shirts. [Seriously though, scroll down and tell me Ben isn't the hottest man you have ever seen, I felt like I just needed to salute him and then kiss him!]

Loon Lake will forever hold a special place in my heart. It is where I feel I made the final cut with Ben and his family, it is where Ben proposed, and it is where we will build a future for our family. My kids have learned to swim here, they have learned to love the boat and s'mores, and they race to the car when we tell them, "We are going to the lake!"

I took my drone to the lake and got some really neat shots of us in the boat, (the one Ben proposed to me in!) and of Amelia swimming... and Harrison peeing. Then I landed it in the water, about 2 feet from the shore. Good thing I got the warranty huh? I am going to get these images printed for our home. I love when Ben and I create memories where we both cling to remembering them for the sake of our children, and their children. Building a life to be remembered, one trip to the lake at a time.

Amelia surprised us all this summer with her swimming skills, she was determined to not use her puddle jumper and to swim like a big girl. She did a great job, her jumping skills and goggle application needed to be documented, and laughed at. I love this girl.

Harrison had one focus all summer, throw the ball, get the ball, jump in with the ball, repeat. He loves the lake, but mostly just loves the ball. He even started using tools to just get the ball. He also loves adventures to our lake neighbors and tickles from daddy.

Catching Up - 2018

I walked away from this blog to focus on all the other things happening in life.

Since last April we:
1. Bought a new house.
2. Sold our house.
3. Moved.
4. Ben got a new job/promotion.
5. Amelia started Kindergarten.
6. Burman Photography exploded.

That sounds not so bad when I type it, and honestly - ALL OF THOSE thing are blessings. I just really don't bloom in change. I shrink. I try to find solid ground and then start to rebuild my secure circle of comfort.

Our new house is great, we tripled our house space and I am finally getting to change things that I put off knowing our old house was temporary. I love so many things about this house. I can't wait to finish a few more projects so I can show you some before an afters.

We do have big plans, new kitchen and bathroom renovations, painting all the things in the basement, a new styled living area in the basement and main living room. I want to paint ALL. THE. TRIM. and for the most part, I am slowly taking care of that. We painted so much, we got painted out there for a while. Luckily - we moved in May and had most of the summer to get things done.

Ben started the school year off at the same school, Southern Wells Jr.-Sr. High School, but with a new title. He is now the Assistant Principal + Athletic Director. He did have to give up coaching, which we both shed some tears about, I had no idea I was so attached to his role in those boys lives. He is doing such a great job in his new position. It does require more hours and I have been missing him, but I also see how good he is at that job. Those teachers and students are so lucky to have him. I am so proud of Ben and the hard 18 months of grad school and interviews to get to this point. He seriously works so hard.

Amelia is thriving in school. She shines as a student and has such a caring heart. Her teacher's husband broke his foot and Amelia started praying for him at dinner. My heart melts when she prays, or when Harrison babbles/prays. Harrison is spending his days at Shelly's and has been there since he was 8 weeks old. I can't image our lives without Shelly. She moved to a bigger house with a pond and I am starting to think Harrison wants to move in with her.

Burman Photography has exploded. I am booked full through the 2018 year. I am also booking weddings into the 2019 summer/fall. I love this side gig that is paying for so many special things for our family (more on that after our big Fall Break surprise for the kids!). I became LLC'd this year to help protect our family and my growing business. I am very excited to see where my camera will take me. Follow along via my website, Facebook, or Instagram.

Overall, we are doing great.

Busy is not a badge of honor.

But, we are very busy and looking forward to a slower winter season full of family, cuddles, and making our new house more of a home. I promise more posts.

Amelia :: 5 years + Kindergarten

It is almost Halloween, yes I know I am posting about Amelia's 5th birthday and life since starting school. I will get to little Harrison's 3rd year of life very soon. We are surviving our lives in new roles, a new house, and new expectations. I will write about all that very soon. Until then, Amelia is the light of my life.

Of course with turning 5, Amelia also starting Kindergarten! We love love love her teacher Mrs. Fry. Her Principal, Mrs. Meitzler, is near to my heart since I actually had her son in class years ago. It feels like I am sending her to a friends house all day.

She is learning so much and I couldn't be more proud. I cried a little after dropped her off, but I will for sure say that Preschool helped so much with her confidence (and mine as well). Amelia enjoys learning and she finds the structure of school very comfortable, just like her mom.

Amelia at 5 years old.

She loves to help cook.
She is wearing size 11-12 shoe and 7 in girls clothing.
She sleeps great, bedtime is no longer a battle!
She is a momma hen.
She will wash Harrison's hair and get his tooth brush ready!
She can count past 100.
She has so many sight words down.
She would rather pack her lunch than buy lunch.
She loves when I have a babysitter over so I can go take pictures.
She is pretty picky about her clothes.
She has an attitude when people tell her what to do.
She really wants a kitten, I do not.
She loves cheese and apples with peanut butter.
She has a favorite number "9"
She is currently taking ballet classes.
She can swim to the raft without any help!
She is one heck of an artist - so many drawings and stories.
She love The Greatest Showman and has most of the songs memorized.
